Two years after breast cancer surgery, my mother continued to have problems with the surgical site not healing. A wound care specialist cultured the site and discovered a smoldering pseudomonus infection. A PICC line was inserted at the hospital and she was discharged and approved to have home infusions of antibiotics. Since the tissue at the site was also damaged from her aggressive cancer treatments, she also needed hyperbaric O2 treatments for two months. Every week day was spent on a train to visit the hospital for two-hour hyperbaric O2 treatments which allowed the wound to heal nicely.

Home infusion was key to her treatment, which gave her the freedom of movement so that she was able to consistently receive her hyperbaric O2 treatments, treat her infection and still experience the spiritual and emotional benefits that come with being at home.
